 Tutorial - Downloading for Beginners |

Downloading for the first time can be a bit overwhelming. But rest assured once you have done it a few times it will be as easy as woohooing. First off, there is a wee programme called 'winzip' that you are going to need in order to process your downloads. I suggest you go to www.winzip.com and download the winzip file. Grab the trial version, you dont need to buy it. The trial version will last forever if you are kind to it. Ok install winzip if you dont already have it, just follow the installing instructions that come up. Now you have winzip. We are ready to start downloading. When you click on the download disk icon you will get a new frame come up saying open or save, click on save. Another frame will then come up and ask you where you want to save it to. In the 'save in' at the top of the frame click on the little arrow pointing down and a drop down window will appear. Then click on 'my documents', then another frame will appear, then you click on 'eagames', then another frame will appear, then you click on 'thesims2', then another frame will appear, then you click on 'downloads'. Ok now thats your downloads folder in front of you now, this is where you will save the large majority of your downloads for the game. Next, you will now see the name of the file that you are downloading at the bottom of that page, you then click on 'save' and it will start downloading the file. Once the download is complete, click close. We are half way there. Now remember our wee programme winzip?, this is where that comes into play. First off lets go back and find our download again so we can unzip it. Go back to your desktop. Click on start, then documents, then mydocuments, then eagames, then sims2, then downloads (yep exactly how we did it before), now you are in your downloads folder (was easy to find this time eh). Scroll down and you will see that file you downloaded and it has a funny little icon next to it like a vice or something - double click on that and winzip is going to magically appear - it will ask you if you want evaluation version or buy now. You want your evaluation version so click that. Winzip has now unzipped the file but you will need to get it back into your downloads folder. Click on the file and drag it over into your downloads folder. I'm sure there are more technical ways of doing this, but this is easy. If there are any more files in that folder there, like a mesh or something, drag that into the downloads folder too. In fact, play it safe at this stage and drag whatever is in that folder into your downloads folder - that way you have all bases covered. Close the winzip window. Close the downloads window. Ok woohoo, you just did it! - You downloaded and unzipped your download, so now its in the game and ready to roll ! Remember you still have to purchase your download in the game, it wont automatically appear in your wardrobe! Some sites have 'quick installers' available so you may want to try those if you dont want to try the above. Some custom content may require a separate download to work properly.
